Thank you for all your support and encouragement.  As requested, here’s an update on the wonderful world of first time homeownership!  We’ll be back to our regularly scheduled snark soon…

After a brief home-improvement hiatus, we (and by “we” I mean: Big Charlie of Costanzo Tile & Marble fame, Andrew and I) attacked the house last weekend.  And, I might add, we rocked “demolition couture” (think “Derelict,” but dustier):

The latest in home improvement couture!

Remember that cute little pile of demolished blue bathroom materials?

Our former bathroom

Well, that pile has grown to epic proportions and taken over the garage, swelling with kitchen demolition debris, structures formerly-known-as-walls, ancient flooring and appliances, etc.

Home Renovation: The Good, The Bad and (mostly) The Ugly.

And speaking of the formerly functioning debris, here’s how we got rid of the supporting wall between the kitchen and the dining room…

Please note: Charlie is not in a cage… he’s working between the two temporary “walls” built to support the house while he put the LVLs in the attic.

On a more tranquil note, our yard (which we affectionately refer to as “the jungle”) continues surprising us!  Every week a new type of flora blooms, so we’ve seen lots of gorgeous color since spring!  Last weekend’s floral showcase included white roses and a sea of green vegetation punctuated by flashes of yellow flowers:

Stop and Smell the...

What’s next in the ever-evolving home renovation plan?  Well, this weekend we’ll be celebrating Father’s Day by putting our dads (and my Mo!) to work (again) building a closet, removing more carpet, prepping the walls for painting, etc.  Lucky them?  Rhymes-with-Father-of-the-Bride and Charlie truly deserve a special place in heaven.  Happy (early) Father’s Day!

Another Wedding To Do?

Dear reader(s), I hope you aren’t getting too tired of hearing about my bridal ineptitude. I promise this will all be over in about a month and a half. And thank goodness for that – I’m getting tired of being a lousy bride, and I’m ready to move on to being lousy at something else!

Any ideas?

Hoodles, yesterday afternoon I was kindly reminded (if you can call someone emailing “Earth to Sarah” kind… though admittedly, I do appreciate the Zoolander reference) of the tradition dictating that Andrew and I give each other gifts on our wedding day.

Isn’t getting hitched and getting those gorgeous (and sparkly) wedding bands gift enough? Apparently not.

It seems that amid all the wedding planning chaos, we are supposed to give each other something “special” and “meaningful” that we can pass down to our future offspring. Talk about pressure!

I’ve heard all manner of gifts can be appropriate: fine jewelry, surfboards, personalized hankies, first edition autographed tomes, money clips, golf clubs, cuff links, love letters, property deeds, picture frames, etc.  But none of these ideas has really lit our fires, so I’m turning to you, dear reader(s)…

What do you recommend I give Andrew?

And what do you recommend he give to me?

Yours in cluelessness and too many to dos,

Sarah

Bizarro World‏

Some days I wonder what the universe is up to… Sleeping on the job? Playing practical jokes? Completing a double-dog dare? Just not paying enough attention?

I’m sure you have these days, too. Not the kind where one weird thing happens; the kind where enough bizarre things go down that you can’t help but wonder if you’re on the universe’s Candid Camera. Nothing horrible or tragic (thankfully), just a few things that, as C + C Music Factory says, “make you go hmmm.” Case in point? I’m fairly certain the universe was punking me yesterday. For example, I received two pieces of mail that were both a little “off.”

Am I marrying a stranger? Who is Andrew Rottensteiner??

The first was a lease renewal for our apartment (what we affectionately call Chez Gerrowski). Other than a rental increase that we don’t wish to discuss (but we will say: oy!), the letter was fairly standard, except for my fiancé’s name. We’ve been together for nearly six years and all this time I have, apparently, had his name wrong. The “L-ski” we know and adore, according to our apartment complex, is really named “Andrew Rottensteiner.” Yeah. Rottensteiner. Could I become Sarah Rottensteiner? No. No, I don’t think I could. The silver lining here (you knew I would do my best to find one) is that I’m hoping they will bill all future monthly rent payments to Mr. Rottensteiner, and leave the real Andrew and I in peace. While we’re at it, let’s put good ol’ Rottie’s name on our electric, gas, phone, television and internet bills, too! Not to mention car payments…

Which brings me to bizarro mail exhibit #2: the monthly bill from Honda for my faithful “Blue Steel.” On this month’s statement, Honda included a cute little parenting suggestion it felt I could put to use: namely, that I should spoil my soon-to-be college coed! Here’s the bill…

Parents: Get your college-bound kids a Honda Scooter today! Riiight...

When I leased my car I had to give Honda all sorts of info about myself and I’m sure they know that I’m far too young to have a college-aged kid. Heck, after the application, background/credit check, they may know more about my life than I do. So…

I will try to do the right thing here: Honda, since you know every intimate fact and detail about my life, if this soon-to-be undergrad does exist, go ahead and have said child get in touch with his/her dear ol’ mama! I’m nothing if not nurturing…
